How to set up online ordering with contactless pickup in Shopify

We created this tutorial to help you quickly set up an online shop so your customers can shop online and pick up their orders safely and contactlessly.

Thats how it works

With contactless pickup, nearby customers can buy something online and pick up their order without leaving their car. This “drive-in” option is often more convenient, can reduce shipping and delivery costs and minimize interactions between people. Here’s how it works:

Your customer orders and pays online through your new online shop .

You will receive the order by email so that you can prepare it safely.

You then tell the customer when his order is ready for collection.

Your customer drives to your shop and opens the trunk.

You place the order safely and contactlessly in his trunk.

That’s it already!

Steps to set up online ordering with contactless pickup

We created this tutorial with the goal of getting your shop up and running within a maximum of an hour (depending on how many products you upload). Let’s get started

1. Before you start selling

Before you can start selling products online, you should prepare the following things:

Photos of your business.

Logos or brand elements for your business. If you still need a logo, you can  try Hatchful . You can also find tips for your logo in this article .

Short product descriptions that describe your products and explain why you should buy them. If you need help writing, you should read our guide .

Product photos to present your catalog. Most modern smartphones can take high quality photos.

2. Set up your online shop

The first step is to go to Shopify’s homepage and start your free 90-day trial. The name of your shop becomes your domain or the URL where your customers can place online orders.

In this tutorial I use the URL katies-cafe-abholservice.myshopify.com for the shop, Katies Cafe . You can also purchase a custom domain later . This is not necessary for the start of your shop. katies – cafe – pick up service . myshopify . com for business,

3. Add products

You can add products in different ways. However, to quickly offer online orders with contactless pickup, we recommend the following steps:

Go to Products> All Products in the Shopify admin area . On this page you then click on the Add Product button .  Enter a title for your product and a product description, and add a photo.

Make sure you section inventory , select track number activate.

Since the shipping is omitted here, remove the checkmark from This product requires shipping .

If your item has more than one option (e.g. different sizes, colors, etc.), you have to enter the corresponding variants.
